    1967 Emergence Brake Light

    Need advice on '67 emergency brake light - it will not go out. The old switch was fine - changed the switch anyway - all functioning fine. Pulled the wire out of the switch - still won't go out. Any idea's?

    It's a dual-purpose light: emergency brake and low brake system pressure. Check the fluid levels in the master cylinder.

      Pic - M/C Switch

      Here is a pic of the wiring to the switch in the distribution block under the master cylinder.

        Tom,

        You might just have a short or break in the wire that Paul shows in the picture, or low brake fluid.

          Hello;
          The safety switch under the Master is spring loaded on the Generals cars.
          If low brake fluid is the problem the light should only illuminate when stepping on the brake pedal.
          If the light turns off when disconnecting the wire from that switch the switch needs cleaning.
          It's not difficlult. The brake line seats can be removed w/ a sheet metal screw and reused if your carefull. Regular brake fluid is water soluble. Soap and water normally work, w/ a good amount of compressed air to dry things out. Reassemble w/ clean fluid.
          If you have silicone fluid dissolving the crude w/ thinners after removing the orings has worked for me.
          Hope this helps.
