My '67 has an irritating rattle in the passenger's side dash; it's like a combination of a tinny sound and a small bucket of springs rattling. It seems to be coming from near the A/C duct under the glove box. Pressing on various parts in that area has no effect, so I guess the rattle is inside something. Is there a usual suspect for rattles in this area? Thank you.

Re: C2 dash rattle
Can you reproduce the rattle at will, such as on a specific section of highway? If so, try removing the A/C duct on the passenger side (only three screws, as I recall) and see if that makes a difference.
Next step would be to remove the glove box assembly as a whole, leaving door and cardboard liner attached to each other. That is only about 5 to 10 screws. Getting the wire free from the light is a challenge, but I seem to recall that the trick involves taking the socket assembly apart so that the wire can feed out through the hole in the cardboard liner.
If the rattle persists with the A/C duct and glove box removed, you will have good visual and physical access to the various control cables and hoses behind the glove box that are associated with the heater and A/C. Hopefully you can locate the source of the rattle with the glove box removed.- Top

Re: C2 dash rattle
Joe, I can't reproduce it at will; within the first few minures of driving, it appears on all road surfaces regardless of temperatures, etc. It's not overly loud, but very noticeable. I'll try your suggestions. My 'gut' tells me the rattle is inside something, like a flapper valve vibrating very fast against the housing; but, there's that tinny sound, too. Thanks for the suggestions.- Top

Re: C2 dash rattle
Hi Larry:
Good luck chasing this rattle. One nice thing is that you can drive around for as long as you want with the A/C vent and glove box removed. It's inconvenient perhaps but it does not affect driveability.
With the glove box out you will have good access to a couple of the control cables and some of the parts that are unique to A/C cars. There is a vacuum switch used to cut off the hot water to the heater, and a large electrical switch used to engage the A/C compressor. Perhaps one of these components is loose.
Be careful with the end of the loose wire from the glove box light. If it touches any metal parts it will blow a fuse, so tape it off carefully.
BTW, I have a 67 A/C Powerglide car, so our cars are similar.- Top
