    1967 Glove box door

Hello, My son and I are going to Corvettes at Carlisle and are looking for an
origional glove box door for our 1967. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the origional door and the current reproductions? If we
cannot find a new door, how do the reproduction doors stand up for judging?
We are going to have the car judged at an NCRS event in 2008 and would much
prefer an origional door. Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

John did you see the article in the NCRS Restorer member publication on how to rebuild/refurbish/make like new a glove box door?

      John,

Take a look at this post in the archives on a 67 door:

There are other posts on the topic, search under C2 Glove Box or 67 Glove Box

As I understand, the repro doors have a wrinkled inner surface at the outer edge of the inside of the door. Sort of a washboard effect. Originals can have only a very slight wrinkle.

66 and 67 doors are the same except for the tire pressure decal. 67 doors have decal #3910795, although some very early (and late like mine) have the 66 #3888750 decal. The part number is on the decal.

66 and 67 doors share the same front emblem. 64-67 have a different front emblem. 63 doors are not metal.

The first thing a judge will look at will be the peeled over studs or "rivets" in the back of the door to see if the front insert has been replaced. If they look like pop rivets or allen head screws, you will get a minor deduct.

In the Spring 2007 Restorer is a story of how to replace the front insert without drilling out the rivets. If you have your original door in good shape except for the insert you might try the new method.

If you are too new to have that Restorer issue, send me an email and I will send you a draft copy of the article with links to pictures.

        Re: 1967 Glove box door

Hello Jerry, Thank you for your offer. I have been a member for two years and have the issue of the Restorer. My outer housing is damaged and cannot be
repaired. I have looked at several doors and noticed different rivet heads
and paint. They also have varied wrinkled surfaces on the inside cover. If there is not a distinct difference, I will look for a good used one and
restore it per that article. Does anyone have a good picture of both sides of
the reproduction door they can post? Again thank you all for your assistance.
