55 Vacuum advance for the few that have one.

The good and bad side of owning a 55 Corvette / Bad side/ it's hard meeting some one that has a 55, even here What three people? So you get vary little comradery at NCRS meets unless your lucky to see one. The JM has vary little and poor information on them.

Good side/ is so few are servivng today I believe less in numbers then the 53's/ that when you find a REAL: original part you have little competition when buying it on e-bay. Also driving it around I've never met another one on the road in 30 years so it makes having a 55 unique. Next it's near impossible to find a REAL vacuum advance #1118085 which is casted in to the part not scathed in which I did on e-bay a complete 55 early Dist. For $45.00. OK I just felt good that I found an extra one to have for my old 55 Corvette and I have only seen one other on a 55 that is REAL. I also have the #1118098 just to show one to people.
PS the JM calls the number to be a #111{6}085 and #111{6}098 it's wrong! there 8 not 6

Re: 55 Vacuum advance for the few that have one.

roy: i believe your conclusion regarding the part # on the 55 distributor vacuum advance control part # is incorrect. the 1953 to 1955 Corvette Parts Catalog, effective July 1955, page 13, lists the part # as 1116085 as does the NCRS Judging manual. although your picture of the control, shown here on the tdb, isn't as good as actually looking at the real deal in person, i'd interpret your picture as a 1116085, not 1118085 as you believe. Been to the spectacle doc lately? mike

The right-hand side of the 4th-last digit and the second-last digit are different---the 4th-last looks like a 6 to me.

        Re: 55 Vacuum advance OK

OK Mike and Mike your correct about the number 6, it was mean and wicked of me but I knew that , I just was curious about how many knowing 55 owners on the forum would respond (TWO) ! As I said there may be three 55 guys using this forum , now we few know how lonesome we are here. Sorry ! This pic show better the 6.= #1116085

You are a mean guy. I have been looking for 12 years for a non operating vacuum advance no 1116098 (or 1118098). You admit to having one just for show. Does yours have no hole on the face of it (non operating). These were used on later cars. Maybe I could arrange for you to leave it to me in your will but I may go before you. Maybe you could post a picture of your extra one that you have just to show off to people so that at least I can drool. I would gladly pay you 45$ (or 45 million) for it.

            Well,

I'm still around, but I have the later non-operating can.

I was once looking at a Harvest Gold '55 at Macungie, and after a few minutes there were four of us. As we talked, we discovered that not only were none of us the owner of the car, but we all had Harvest Gold '55's at home! As there were only about 120 HG cars made, and this was around 1992, that has got to be the coincidence of all time!
