T-10 Transmission

Could some one please decipher the following transmission codes and what would be the application?

The date code is either 0 or D-30-00 or 03

It looks to me like it might be "D.30.8", with the "8 laying down". If so, I expect that it's April 30, 1958.

I would have never looked at it as an 8 on it's side.

Would you happen to know what the Q-2 signifies and is the lone "2" for second shift?

The other characters I do not have any knowledge of. I expect that they are some sort of foundry marks used by whatever foundry cast-up these cases for Borg-Warner. It's possible Borg-Warner had their own in-house foundry. Either way, though, I'll bet the meaning of these marks has been "lost in antiquity".

The "8" in the date code looks like the character is of a larger font size than the rest of the characters. That may be why it had to be inserted "laying down". It's also possible that the "laying down" character had some other significance.

Where is this date? Is it a casting date

or an assembly stamping? All T-10 "assembly" dates begin with a "W".

Colvin's book says T10-1B cases were only cast from June 59 to January 61, which would eliminate a 1958 date as a possibility. My T10-1 case for my 59 has a cast date of 9-24, with no year. I don't know whether T10-1B cases had a year code as part of the casting date, but if they did, maybe you are looking at April 30, 1960, which was a Saturday.

You should have an assembly stamping next to where the sidecover bolts on like "WF1002", which would be June 10, 1960, 2nd shift, for example.

Ray,
I would concur with your reading of the assembly date. Based upon the casting and assembly dates for 1963, I do not believe that it is possible to differentiate Corvette T-10's from other makes . I could be wrong about this latter issue though. Richard

TMJG says cast iron cases were only used up to VIN 2400 in 1961, with the aluminum cases thereafter. Could this be a passenger car T10 assembled in 1963?

Check out ebay auction no. 260151970398 for a 62 T10 with a T10-1B cast iron case and a casting date of E.9.62 for a good comparison to yours:
