    Trunk Springs.

Anyone have some suggestions for weak trunk lid springs on a '58. After some aftermarket irons were installed the lid really droops....it drooped a bit before also. Anyone with any ideas. Thanks. Chuck

    Re: Trunk Springs.

Is it one spring or both springs that sag?
Have that problem with my 61 as the left original spring is weak. I tried all sort of adjustments without satisfaction. Until I can find a final solution I simply placed a 1/4" piece of flat stock aluminum on top of the fiberglass floor just below the rod encased spring. This spacer then forces the rod/spring assembly to raise the trunk lid when it is closed. If you want to try this, simply play around with the spacer thickness to force the rod up in small increments when the lid is closed. Nothing is touched or modified and it may provide some improvement.

Chuck: my buddy and I fixed our '58 droop problem (those brass irons are HEAVY) with springs taken from Stanley gate closers. Mike
