I'll be shopping around Carlisle this weekend for a repro teak wheel for my 66. The two names that I've heard who are the most popular suppliers of these wheels are Freeman Designs out of Charlotte and the Teak Freaks from Ohio. Anyone find one better than the other? I've heard that Freeman's repro are so good that only the most experienced judge can tell the difference?
Don't plan to have the car judged with the teak wheel on anyways.
I did the same thing during last year's Carlisle and finally ended up ordering one from Eric Freeman. Both wheels are very good, but the Freeman wheel seemed a little "better" to me.
I meant to ask also: A friend of has noticed the groove the fingers ride in end more abruptly than original wheels. The original wheel finger grooves have a smoother transition in these grooves. How are the Freeman wheel grooves? DG
Dave, I will second Eric Freeman. Good workmanship and a prince of a gentleman to deal with. I have dealt with him for about 20 years and have NEVER had any problems.
