    C3 HEATER BOX

WHAT COLOR SHOULD THE HEATER BOX ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE FIREWALL BE ON A 68 COUPE WITH OUT AIR ?
AFTER CLEANING IT LOOKS NATURAL WITH SOME BLACK OVERSPRAY.

Sounds good to me. Typical of what is seen.

      Re: C3 HEATER BOX

Dickie, where would the overspray come from? I understood black-out occured at the end of the paint process, and before assembly began. I would expect to see that goopy sealant brushed/slopped along the top of the heater box to firewall joint, but not black overspray on the heater box...what am I missing here?

          That Part I Understand...

To save you typing, I will provide the wordy answers. Pick the one most appropriate:

          (1) "You are confused. The heater box was actually installed before the black-out process by the body shop, and therefore was in position when the last paint shop operation, or black-out, was done."

          (2) "You are confused. The black out process actually occured after the car started on the trim line...The heater box had already been installed by the time the underhood area was blacked out."

          (3) "You are confused. None of the above. The real reason you see black-out overspray on the heater box is because..." (You'll have to supply words for this one.)

              Got It...

Mine had overspray, but it had also been "freshened up" by Bubba Detailing. I always thought the sloppy overspray was from the later freshening, and that the heater box, and evaporator assembly as well, were installed on the trim line with everything else.

Jim and I thanks you, Dickie and Terry.

Maybe we should wait for John Hinckley to chime in from Carlisle -- just to be sure.

                  Chiming In...

Following the near-tornado that made a mess of the entire Carlisle site at dinnertime tonight. The heater boxes (inside and outside) were installed after the Paint Shop, on the Hard Trim Line, after the dash mat was installed. If the outer box has overspray on it, it must be from a Final Paint Repair that was poorly masked. This is not unusual, as ALL Corvettes got some level of Final Paint Repair.

                    John,

                    Thanks for setteling that one.

I hope you and all others are OK.

Re: C3 HEATER BOX and Carlisle Report

?? I have removed several that had the appearance of black overspray. Maybe it was a discoloration of the box? I always cleaned them by washing with MEK and reinstalled them natural..

BTW, on the Carlisle weather, I just talked to a couple of people that came from the fairgrounds. Real bad scene. Tents downs, lots of damage, at least five sent to the hospital with at least two critical. According to local TV news one owner was injured when tree fell across his car. Our prayers are with those injured.

                          Re: Chiming In...

I bailed out at noon Saturday and went back to my hotel in Harrisburg - too damn HOT for this old guy - couldn't handle the 98*/95% heat/humidity, even with the generator and oscillating fans we had in the Vetteheads.com tents. Got the same storm at the hotel about 20 minutes after it hit Carlisle, saw the first photos later that night.
