I just installed a new rear spring in my car. It came with heavy steel straps around the ends holding some of the leafs together. In the Corvette Cental catalog it says these should be removed but I called Muskegon Brake where I got the springs, and he said they should be left on. Does anyone know whether they should stay or go. They would be a bear to remove.

Re: Rear leaf spring question; what year?
You can leave them on if you want. It won't hurt anything. However, originals do not have these retainers. So if originality is a concern, they should be removed. Don't know why they told you they should not be removed.- Top

Re: Rear leaf spring question; what year?
Actually they did say that they can be left on or taken off. They seem like they would be pretty hard to remove. Does it affect the ride in any way? The height of the car is pretty good now, maybe very slightly higher than the front.- Top

very easy to remove, they pry right off (two ends of the band are "clamped" down on the leaves).65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top
