C1 Dash Cluster and Speedo Question

I have 61. When I assemble the two halves and put in the speedo cluster, the chrome bezel on the speedo does not sit flush on the right and left side of the top housing. It is flush on the very top and on the bottom. The space at its widest point is about 1/4". See picture please. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...188&Sequence=0

Also, it is common for the top part of the dash to crack at the two inside tabs where the studs go through to hold the two pieces together? http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...189&Sequence=0

I have tried three different speedos, and three different dash tops. None fit right. Thanks for the info in advance. Joe

Joe, I don't have the answer you want, ie how to solve your problem. I can tell you that I have had many C1 dashes apart and they ain't supposed to fit like that. As far as I know the cracking problem in picture #2 is not common. At least I haven't run into it before. Is your speedo bezel a repo? I put a repo from Corvette Central in my 61 a year or so ago and it fit perfectly. Did it fit like this before you took it apart, or for that matter did you take it apart or buy it in pieces? Looks to me like something is warped. Can you post a pic of the rear of the housing? That might provide some sort of clue.
