I have a 1966 Coupe with a 327 and Powerglide. My differential is marked with "AM 11 15 65". The date seems to be ok for my vin # 06634 (build date 11/24/65), but the books indicates that the only option for Powerglide cars was the AK 3.36:1 Standard differential. I need to replace this unit and my concern is what I should use to keep the car as original as possible. Could it have been that my car was delivered with a AM 3.36:1 Positraction differential or do I have to get a 3.36:1 Standard differential to keep the car original? Does anyone have any experience on this?
C2: Is this the wrong differential?

Not by my reading of the books
The NCRS spec guide powertrain charts show powerglide for base engine with 3.36 ratio (non-posi) with an asterisk indicating G81 posi in 3.36 ratio AM code also available as option.
The 1966 Corvette dealer order form backs this up. IMO, the error (?) is in the NCRS pocket guide indicating that AM code is only for manual trans 327, whereas it was available with 3-speed or 4-speed or POWERGLIDE 327's (incl. L79) (as AM code), as well as for the 427's (AU code).- Top
