By the way, the original "546" caliper halves used for 1965-E1967 and "545" caliper halves used for L1967 to ABOUT 1973 were cast in nodular/malleable iron. The "547" caliper halves used from ABOUT 1973 to the end of C3 production in 1982 were cast in gray iron. That was ONE of the reasons for the casting number change at that time; the caliper half design had to be slightly modified to compensate for differences in the characteristics of the material from which they were cast.

As I mentioned previously, from about the mid-70's, when the "547" caliper halves were phased into production, they became the SERVICE caliper halves for all L1967+ Corvette applications. The PART numbers for the caliper halves changed at that time, too.

The "547" caliper halves are sometimes referred to as "3rd design". Functionally, though, they are exactly the same as and interchangeable with "2nd design.

The caliper casting and part numbers never showed up in the Assembly Manual because they were part of a larger assembly as received at St. Louis - the fronts were part of the spindle/steering arm/hub/rotor/splash shield/caliper assembly, and the rears were part of the trailing arm/bearing support/spindle/splash shield/parking brake/rotor/caliper assembly.
