Need opinion - Proper way to close hood on C2 ?

I have a '63. I have had it out of restoration now about 10 months.

To close the hood I have been holding the hood about a 12 inches above the hinges and drop the hood. It closes fine each time.

I've seen other C2 owners close their hoods by laying the hood on the hinges and push at the areas above the hinges. I personally have a problem with this method as I feel it places undue stress on the fiberglass.

What do other owners do OR what is the proper way to close a C2 hood?

I have wondered about this myself. For now, till my springs wear in I am pushing down each corner into place. A freind of mine simply lets the hood drop into place. I suspect most with cars that have been in use for some time, just drop their hoods in place. My car is so new to me I cannot bear to let it drop. Fear of cracks for me. DG

I agree. I think it puts less stress on the glass than pushing on the corners. Hood should close fine with a 8 in. drop not slam.

Jack,Dick,et al ---- Been closing my '67 hood by dropping about 8 to 10 inches as it was designed for since restoration in 1994. Worked during PV judging, too.

Hi boys it was me that posted that
          Do the cracker test
Place a sodium cracker in a plastic bag and place them in all the tight spots/wing nut ait cleaner/master brake screw.Drop the hood if the cracker brakes ? little to close. This is on 1963 the spots are to close.Remember when you drop the hood the spring will collaspe down 1/2"more.

If you have an early master brake with wing nut look at the bottom of you hood for marks. After 63 mistakes GM made more room/different master brake nut/cookie sheet bolt removel
{cookie sheet only 63} 64 had indents but no sheets why ?
This not law just a beware of to much drop.

Agreed on the "too much drop".

Wind at car shows where the car's back end is facing the direction the wind will give you a hint why.

Mine is OK. No marks on the underside of the hood from the Master Cylinder screw.
