Temp sending unit wire on '69 L46

I have a 1969 350 / 350 and the connector that attaches to the temperature sending unit on the driver's side keeps falling off. I don't know if it's just because the connector is so old or what but, I am looking for suggestions on how to make sure the connector stays on.
Can I simply replace the connector or is there a "Loc-Tite" type of solution that I could use?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Re: Temp sending unit wire on '69 L46

Originally, the factory original temp sender was a 'pin head' design that mated to a 'barrel' connector on the wiring harness that simply slid over the pin-head terminal. This was a short-lived design and replaced around 1972-73 with the original 'nail-head' version of the temp sender.

At that time, GM's advice to dealership mechanics needing to replace a factory original 'pin head' temp sender was to cut the original mating connector off the wiring harness and install the earlier/later version of the 'nail head' connector. So, relatively few of the factory original pin-head temp senders with their 'barrel' connectors remain.

The placement of the temp sender (in the LH cylinder head, below the ram's horn exhaust manifold) was pretty notorious for 'baking' the factory original barrel connectors causing their clear plastic surrounding hoods to deterioriate and let go. Without the external support of the clear plastic, these barrel connectors were notorious for slipping off the temp sender's pin head terminal.

But, Lectric Limited has re-tooled to supply 'clones' of both the pin head temp sender and the mating barrel connector. So, fresh parts ARE available today. I can't say how close to factory original/correct they are, but that's your universe for replacement components short of walking the scrap yards and getting 'lucky' in finding originals.

So, until you tell us whether your temp sender/harness components are factory original or service replacements, it's not possible to really answer your question...

Going by your description of the connector I would have to say that I still have the original connector on my car.

Then you should be in GREAT shape! I'm not sure if Lectric Limited's repro temp senders actually have an AC emboss on them (would require a license from GM), but they DO advertize the mating 'barrel' connector and it sounds like that's all you need...

Believe the green wire, with the round metal connector, and the white round plastic cover are available as a kit.(you can get any seperately) Splice the green wire into your harness where it gets covered by the black heat loom,(you can get that as well), and no one is the wiser.
