What is the correct voltage regulator for a 1965 with 396/425 HP angine and transistorized ignition? Thank you in advance for help.

Depends...
A handful of VERY early 396 cars are known to have shipped with 1116368, solid state, voltage regulator versus the electro-mechanical '515. There's conjecture that there was a misunderstanding at St. Louis where various AIM documents called out certain parts as 'same as C-60' like the LH frame rail placement of the battery, WSW bag and battery access door in the LH inner fender.
There was an NCRS member, maybe 10 years ago, soliciting L78 owner information to try and tie down how many of these 'oops' cars were shipped and where the VIN cutoff line fell. I don't remember him ever sharing his survey data even though his Driveline add stated he would give copies to those who participated in the survey.
He called to clarify an entry item I turned in and I remember him saying the change over was WELL before my late April car was built. So, I'd guess you'd have to have a straight-neck, early, radiator in order to perhaps qualify for the use of the SS V-Reg on your car...- Top

Memory??
I also recall something along the lines of Jack's 396 memories, but the dog that's wagging my "368" memories also seems to include that the VERY FIRST 396 used the 515, and then there was a period of "368" use and then back to the "515". BUT I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING in the printed application data charts or on the 368 layout drawing that calls out 425 HP usage in 1965.
The Delco card for the 1116368 in the "CUSTOMER" section for the Chevrolet models has the following:
"Chevrolet 1965 "Chevrolet -1965
w/1100697, 1117765" and: Opt. 60, 62 amp.
Chevelle
Truck"
It also lists Pontiac Tempest. Buick Big Car & Skylark, Buick Special-1965 Police, GMC Truck Gas Engine V^ & L6, 1966/7 Pontiac Tempest and 1969 Pontiac.- Top

My '65 AIM (K66, Sheet 5) shows L78 ...
... with what looks like a "515" volt reg. on the PASSENGER side forward fender near the rad support, which is contrary (at least) to late 396 production where these items are on the driver's side. This sheet has a revision record indicating that it was revised on 4-8-65.
Now the weird part is that this dwg also shows part # 2988198, which is a wire assembly (Gr 2.505) with an in-line diode that was designed to protect voltage surges on shut-down from frying the transistors in 1116368 !!- Top

Re: Memory??
I don't understand why the Board prints this material WITHOUT the gaps it was typed with "Chevrolet 1965 w/1100697, 1117765" was one listing alongside "Chevrolet - 1965 and Opt. 60, 62 amp, Chevelle, truck".
Obviously the Board KNEW I didn't want it to appear the way it was typed; that was my way of asking the Delco file why was it necessary to list the 1965 Chevrolet TWICE?- Top
