    54 corvette

After sandblasting of 54 traces of blue paint evident in several places, we feel confident the car has been white since 1961 no history appears to be available before this time. decision we must make is what color to paint car.It appears there are no accurate records since cars were not color coded until 56. the color pennant blue is really beautiful on these cars . What is the right thing to do for the car? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thant You Don Harrison

I am fond of Polo White but Pennany Blue is fantastic. Go with what you like.

If there is no past owner disputing the fact as to what color it was then paint it what ever color you like, years ago mid years guys were asking NCRS to have C1 owners prove the C1's color because they had to by the (trim plate), It was called the Green sheet. I don't know if it's still done. Many older members at that time gave up on NCRS because many people knew he or she did change the color which took them out of the top flight award. 63 was the first time a Corvette was color coded.

Roy, Your simple explanations to these...

complicated issues continue to amaze me. I'd guess only about 80% of your response is incorrect, but who am I to judge...? Best, Dennis

Don...you are free to paint the car any color you wish. Of course selecting a generally accepted 54 Corvette color would be wise..for judging.

I owned an original Pennant Blue 54 that I painted white..was not satisfied and thought the white was boring so I painted it red. In red it was spectacular.

Now 25 years later..the Pennant Blue properly done is one of my favorites.

However..if I do another 54..it will be Black.

From research done many years ago, Pennant Blue paint was first available in, I believe, March of 1954. If your car was assembled prior to that, you have a choice of Polo White, Sportsman Red or black.

C1's can be color change by having no trim plate
Years ago C2 guys were upset because they had a trim plate and C1 dint
There was a green sheet you had to sign
older guys were upset signing a green sheet years ago
was 63 the first year for a tim plate?
                what am I missing??
Am I stepping on some ones toes?
