    66 electrical problems

I am working on a 66 427 with A/C. The clock doesn't work, I have tried two rebuilt ones that I have and then I checked the plug and it is not getting any voltage. Any ideas where the problem might be? Also the courtesy lights and glove box light do not work, but everything else does work. Are these connected some way? Also I have a black wire with an orange stripe that has been cut and I can't seem to find where it would go. I seem to recall on the last A/C car that I did that you added the A/C harness and then didn't use some of the dash harness for a non-A/C car. Is this one of those wires?

    Thanks for any help.

Jeremy - I trust you have checked the fuse block and the fuses are good and you have electrons out of the appropriate fuse(s). Pete

While I can't address your problem directly, have you cleaned the connectors on the engine side of the firewall? I had issues with my 66, years ago, and I eventually wound up cleaning both halves of blocks on the firewall. Solved several issues.

            Jeremy,

You're going to have to carefully trace back the wire(s) with no power. The first thing you'll need is a helpful set of wiring diagrams. The b&w laminated ones that all the vendors carry (from Lectric Limited) are essentially reprints of the ones in the A.I.M.s, mistakes and all, and are hard to follow. Get the set of corrected, color-coded OSOEZ laminated wiring diagrams for your year car (2 for '66) from Geoffrey Coenen (www.DocREBUILD.com). (I just picked up a set for my '65 in Carlisle.) They are accurate, and show pictures of all connectors, junctions, splices, etc., their locations, as well as bulb and fuse ID numbers. You'll find them indispensable.

            Good luck!

            Louis

              Jeremy,

The clock is also fed from the courtesy lamp and stop light circuit. It is possible the fuse is not blown but the fuse block is damaged and you are not getting power thru to the supply side. Use your tester to see if you have voltage to the load side fuse clips.

The clock power feed WAS fused in '66 - runs off the same fuse (through a splice internal to the harness) as the courtesy lights, glove box light, and the stop lamp switch. Runs off the bottom fuse in the block.
