when doing your own shop work on your car,, which manual do you prefer to use? Haynes, Chilton or other or none?? thanks doug

While some of the non-GM manuals CAN be a little clearer (See Dick, See Jane) in their descriptions of this/that R&R job, the IMPORTANT precautions (don't do this, beware of that) are there in the GM literature! We often hear stories about folks doing their own maintenance who damaged this/that part using 'gut feel' repair techniques or non-GM books for guidance....- Top

I still use my 1972 Chiltons manual in addition to the 67 GM Service Manual in working on my 67. I think there are a few extra tips, and more tailored to the Corvette.
For instance, the trick about using a longer bolt to stabilize the pushrod when replacing a fuel pump on a S/B is in the Chiltons Manual, and not in the my 67 GM Service Manual.
