    Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all you old and young farts out there!

I just started Father's Day off with a presentation of hand painted coffee mugs from each of my kids. My son's even featured his fine representation of our 66 roadster (although it has a lot better looking paint job than the real thing). Yesterday, he and I went to Kilbroney 2000, the largest old car gathering in Northern Ireland. We were proud to be the lone example of GM's finest amongst the 700+ entries and received plenty of attention, in spite of the paint! The only thing missing was my NCRS, UK chapter sticker. It arrived in the mail on the same day and is now proudly displayed in the window.

Altogether a fine weekend. I hope each of you fathers (and non-fathers) have as good a weekend.

    Cheers, Mike

    Re: Happy Father's Day

And to you to! I have a good Father's day message to all 'Vette lovers.

Last year, on Father's day my wife, two daughters and I went to Canada's Wonderland (an amusement park here in Toronto). It was a beautiful day and I was iffy about going, because of the inevitably large crowds. But my youngest daughter insisted we go anyways, specially because it was "Corvette Weekend" there. "Well why didn't you say that first?" and I was already in the car.

At the park, Upper Canada Corvette Club had a number of member's top cars on display and a local radio station (1050 CHUM) had a lovely Silver Blue '65 Sting Ray Convertible there as their 1999 Contest Car. Of course I threw my ballot in. So did my wife. So did about 80,000 other people.

Of course the 'Vette display was the first place at the park we had to visit. The kids were getting impatient as I was thoroughly looking over/under/into the display cars. In fact about the time they were getting r-e-a-l cranky, my older daughter figured she'd take a moment to fill out a ballot herself. She was only 11 years old, too young to enter, so she instructed my wife to use my FIRST name and her MAIDEN name (O'Leary - you know - luck of the Irish).

Long story short - wouldn't you know that at the end of the summer THAT BALLOT my daughter "convoluted" was one of five ballots (in about 80,000) selected from Wonderland as contest qualifiers. CHUM radio selected a total of 60 qualifiers from over 200,000 ballots collected all over the city last summer, but I was the last man up following the long elimination rounds, winning the GRAND PRIZE.

A picture of me and the car can be seen at http://members.xoom.fr/_XOOM/convert...1965checor.htm I posted this picture last fall when I believed it was an original big block. It DOES have an original 6500RPM redline tach and 160Mph speedo, though. Notice the silly rear fender flares? Gives the car a real "hopped up" look, but that's how it came.

And what a great Father's day 2000 I'm having. Today I'll catch the rest of LeMans 24 hours then the Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal and CART Detroit Grand Prix races. In between it all, I'll be polishing parts on my Father's day present from last year.

Hope you Dad's out there are enjoying your day too!

      Re: Happy Father's Day

So, last night I am working late in my garage on my 67 coupe body-off restoration listening to the oldies station. It was request night and a lady called in. The caller said she had traveled to her father's home and was celebrating Father's Day with him. The DJ asked if she got her father a present and she said "yes". He then asked what she got him. Her response: "We got him a new Corvette".

I guess for all of us, that would be the ultimate present...sure beats a tie.

        Not so Happy LeMans Day....

...I got up at 4 AM and by 4:30 was sick of watching the Vipers lap the C5Rs, so I decided to take the C5 and extract my own revenge on the privateer (piece of cake) and driving school (in my dreams) Vipers that lurk around here. On the way back, I loaded the car up with annuals from the local "Corn Crib" and am now getting ready to plant them as soon as I finish mowing.

For the guys with the midyear big blocks, who claim to be 'bored' with C5s (and who are also probably on their third plug change this morning), I gotta ask, "Do you guys smoke nuclear waste, or what?"

Anyway, big block or small, annuals or perennials, anytime you wake up above the grass, it is the start of a fine day...

              Jeffrey, m'Boy.............

if anyone is smokin' nuclear waste, it's YOU. Think you can match your punny C5 to the BB's raw power? Think again. Best find another brand of loco weed to inhale, as whatever you're smokin' is clouding your judgement.

What you and I should do, is hook up some day, say Labor day weekend, and have a runoff, what ya say, that way we'll see who is the big bull ****er. The C5's claim to fame is slot car handling, so tell ya what I'm gonna do. I won't take advantage of ya in a straight line, cause we know what the results will be, total anihilation of a modern space age technological C5 by a relic 68 BB, instead, I'll give ya a fighting chance on a road course, say Nelson's Ledges, a 2.2 miler where speeds can reach above 135MPH on the back straight, and some nice tight corners where you really have to slam on the brakes, perfect test for the C5's handling characteristics, and this course will give you a fighting chance to beat a relic 68 that is nose heavy, and can't handle worth a crap. Monday, Sept. 4th is the day, open to all cars, NCCC event put on by Corvette Cleveland, many C5'ers attended, and got their clocks dusted this past Memeorial Day.

So, Jeffrey, I issue you a challenge, either show up or keep your fat trap shut regarding BB's. Remember, when the green flag drops, the bull**** stops.

              Have a happy Father's Day.

The on track performance shows ya that the C5 is garbage.

                      Not to worry!

This is just year one of a three year program, Jeff (assuming GM doesn't bury their head in the sand because they didn't win the first time out like Sebring '57.) I think the cars have the speed, but they need to work on their pit stops. I heard one unconfirmed report that the Vipers actually get better fuel mileage. The Tean Oreca Vipers are awesome, but they've got a two year head start.

Look at the Cadillac team. All you can say is that they finished. All but one got blown off by nearly all the GTS cars. Personally, I wouldn't care if the ACO took the prototype classes and relegated them to the trash heap while adding more Grand Touring and Touring classes to make it an all production car based race. I mean, who really cares about a "Lola Nissan" or a "Reynard Judd"

What I mean is that I too wish the LeMans race were limited to production cars.

..but I'll bet even they would prefer that their mouthpiece refrain from Posting Under the Influence.
