    Lone Star Regional in Waco

    Stephen,
Welcome to the NCRS and hopefully also to the Texas Chapter. Mention was made in an earlier post regarding the Lone Star Regional to be held in Waco 25-27 October. For details, please see the Texas Chapter website, www.ncrstexas.org. There is a link to the Schedule of Events and Registration Form on the page that talks about hotel accomodations for the meet.

    Best regards,
    Charlie Cadenhead

        Stephen,

You commented that you don't know how far people drive for the shows (actually they are judging meets).

Charlie Cadenhead from Spring, Tx drove his 64 to Marlborough, Mass by way of Denver for the National Convention. He didn't think it was far enough to just drive directly.

            Oops...my bad.

Were the stencils ever "not judged"? I'm wondering where I got that idea. Which team judges the stencil?...Exterior?

Yeah, you would think, but I have judged chassis often and I don't remember the judging sheets having a line for the stencil...Are you sure you're not thinking of Bowtie judging?

I wanted to pull up the 70-72 Chassis judging sheets to check you, but the old link doesn't work anymore...I thought those were going to stay up.

Not on my computer...Error 404 File Not Found. I hope John will fix the problem, and keep the judging sheets on record.

I'll take your word for it. You're younger than me...I'm pretty sure NCRS Syndrome hasn't affected your membory...Yet!

Note that only part of the link is highlighted (for some silly reason).
Cope and paste the WHOLE line into your browser, and you'll do fine.

                        When Did You Last Try...

That link...it doesn't work for me. Underlined portion gets me Error 404 File Not Found; long version pasted in address window (I already tried that) got this:

"This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help."

I just tried it again...same result. Maybe it ruffles my Zone Alarm's feathers for some reason.

I tried it just before I posted.

Else, go to the Judging Awards page, and that appears to be the new home.

                          Or, here:

Re: When Did You Last Try...

So ... to sum it up to see if I have this correct:

Q: "can it be galvanized and then painted? (know that is not factory correct, but in this instance is that acceptable?)"

A: galvanizing seems to be discouraged...chuck points out that it changes the metal surface texture (which is true), and it'll be next to impossible to get paint to stick - from what i have read there are several products made specifically to adhere to galvanized metal - so, assuming getting primer and paint for this application, is it still frowned on from a "correctness"/judging perspective? - or is the under, undercoating of the chassis not included?

                                Q: "can it be powdercoated?"

A: Chuck shys away from it...but notes others are moving toward it (particularly the super chevy crowd (and the C3 Forum crowd))...are there others that believe this can be an appropriate or have made it their finish for a correct, NCRS restoration?

Q: "or must it be primed and painted?"

A: ?? - assume the answer is yes if powder coating is out??

Q: "and in whatever case, what is the correct color and finish?"

A: ???? I think this is where is am getting "grump chewed" (copyright Chuck) as it is in the archives...so I'll search this one and come back if i can't find anything...

                                Q: "stenciling..."

A: 3rd party manufacturer for the chassis (or the rocker section?) - used a stencil instead of metal stamping - stencil upside - must either keep it, or note its exact content and position and put on after sandblasting - it is judged by the chassis team.

                                Q: "rust removal..."

A: rid rust seems to be liked by all...with the caveat that Patrick believes it can "remove any yellow dichromate finish, will eventually remove black or gray phosphate, and may peel off chrome if there is any corrosion on the part" - DO NOT ask me to say that 3 times fast! - so I guess there is agreement that ridrust is good for somethings, but perhaps not others - it is a little unclear to me exactly how to draw that line - perhaps using the chassis as an example, is that safe to use all the way around? - or will it, for example, take off the stenciling (which appears yellowish) - AND PATRICK, if not Ridrust, what did you do about rust on your way to all those awards????

                                MANY THANKS - Stephen
