    63 SWC rear bumper

I installed the rear bumpers on my coupe and noticed, that they are not parallel to the body. They curve away toward the center. The mounting brackets on the bumpers are slightly away from the edge, when looking down at the bumper. I expected the edge of the bumpers to be in line with the panel.
    Is this normal ?
I will attach a few photos.

          Hi Rainer,

I'm no expert by far, but I think that this is normal.
I've noticed this on my unrestored SWC and at the recent convention in Boston, I happened to point it out to a friend of mine while looking at the 63's one by one on the floor in the convention center.

              Rainer,

A certain amount of misalignment is considered normal. I would not tolerate it, though. There's plenty of room for adjustment because most of the bumber and brace holes are slotted. Some bolts must be shimmed. With enough patience, you should be able to get a better fit than shown. If they are original bumpers, they should fit better than reproductions, which are notoriously misaligned. Some "modifications" might be needed in order to get a more pleasing fit.

                Joe,

I will have another good look at it tomorrow. Maybe I have reproduction bumpers. How can I identify, if they are original or reproductions ?

That's what my bumpers look like on my '63 SWC.

Thanks everybody for their coments and the ref past post from 2003.
I will leave them the way they are for now. They are freshly rechromed, done locally here in Warrern, Mi., by B & L Plating. They did a beautifull job on all my chrome parts (front and rear bumpers, seat handles, ashtray, seat belt storage clips and seat hockey sticks). Had the door handles (potmetal) done by Fini Chrome Plating, in Warren, Mi also. They came out good also...

                          Dave,
I paid $ 1750 for the lot. I would guess, around $350 a piece for the bumpers. Give them a call at (586) 778-9300. Tell Victor Rainer refered you...
