1964 Front and Rear Licence Plate Mounting?

Hi all,

I am getting ready to put my front and rear licence plates back on my car and was looking through the Judging Guide and it claims both front and rear brackets uses a white push plastic nut but my car has a small metal push in type for both the front and rear. They do exactly the same thing as the plastic ones but I would like to know if others have the same type on there licence plate areas. Could the Judging Guide be slightly incorrect? Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, the JG is correct, Plastic it is.

They were also the small square, 1/4' X 1/4". Not the bigger square on 65 and up.

'65 also 1/4" square holes -- also bumper(s)

The change to the larger square licence nutmounting holes started in 1966 MY.

Here's a bracket (not sure if '63, '64 or '65) showing the small square hole and the 3/4" round black bumper (goes in round hole to the right). Also shows "ds" (or is it "sp" ?) stamping.

Now the '65 AIM shows a single rubber bumper on the lower middle hole. But I have 2 other bracket examples with evidence that the bumper was also on the top hole (ie. less rust under where both bumpers were). One of these is from a '64 for sure.

Does the '63 or '64 AIM or TIM&JG call for 2 rubber bumpers ?
