    Original Alternator Belt?

    I have replaced the alternator belt on my 1967-L79 coupe for the sake of safety and reliability. I believe it to be the original. Is there any way to tell? I know some original parts, like air filter elements, are highly coveted. How about things like original alternator belts?

      Is there a GM part number embossed on the belt? If so, what is it? If the part number is printed in white, you need look no further; it's then NOT an original belt.

          Joe there is an embossed GM followed by an embossed 3861946 as well as other markings and numbers embossed into the belt. I can check what the markings are when I get home from work. The markings are definitely not stamped on the belt in paint or ink.

              It sounds like it could very well be an original belt. Of course, it could also be an early replacement using the same belt as was used in PRODUCTION or, even, a reproduction belt.
