    Who do you believe?

I was researching info on a '64 engine. The "Chevrolet Corvette Specifications" only list engine codes of RC, RD, RE,RF,SC and SD. But "Rowley Corvette Statistics" also list RP,RQ,RR,RT,RU,RX,SK and SL.

In particular I was interested in RQ. So is there an RQ code?

    Bud.

Hollanders lists it as 8cyl-327 with manual trans and air conditioning, high performance in a Corvette. In that context I believe that would make it a 300hp engine.

Hollander's manuals are used in the automotive repair business and wrecking yards to identify interchangible parts. They are also a good source to identify original applications of engines, electrical parts and some other items. I have picked a couple of them over the years and they are useful for answering the type of question you asked.

NCRS Pocket Guide defines them all also.

RQ for a 64 is 300hp, AFB, A/C, Manual trans., per the guide.

              Note...

Hollanders tells you what parts fit/work in a given application vs. what specific part was actually used by the factory during original manufacture. So, you have to interpret the data that's published in these books with caution if your intention is to build a factory concours 'correct' cars.

On the other hand, since Hollanders is WIDELY used as a reference, it does set a reasonable scrap yard search scope (ONCE you know the specific characteristics of the 'correct' part) since it's quite possible that prior owners/mechanics used the Hollanders data base to repair this/that vehicle using the real McCoy Corvette part you're looking for....
