C1-61 Option codes Noland Adams vs John Amgwert

    I found 2 discrepancies while researching 2 61 options.
Noland Adams Corvette resto Guide (pg431) has RPO 579 as 315 hp FI option and John Amgwert's NCRS 53-67 guide (pg 28)says it was RPO 354. Likewise, Noland Adams Corvette resto Guide has RPO 685 4sp tranny costing 64.11 and John Amgwert has a list price of $188.30. Who is right?
    Thanks,
    Ron

Ron, I'll jump in and tell you for sure - I doubt

...the RPO 685 4 speed transmission ever was MSRP @ $64.11 - The $188.30 would be the correct price, I believe. DC

In addition, I'd guess the 579 notation in N/A's

... book is a left-over from 1960. I'd go with the Amgwert specs as listed for the 1961 model year...

Of course, you could check the 1961 AIM... *NM*

          AIM lists both...

option 353/354 and 579/582 for the two versions of FI (standard/hi perf) being available for 1961. The distinction is 353/354 versions of FI are called out in the AIM as being based on 'iron head' technology. Only 579/582 versions are illustrated while the 353/354 verisons bear footnotes in the option table indicating they were originally non-illustrated options.

Non-illustrated items typically have insignificant differences to other illustrated items that drawings are unnecesary for mfgr plant workers to need drawings to properly assemble/ship the item(s). In this case, it looks like the 500 series FI engines were scheduled to use the new aluminum cylinder head while the 300 series were created to express the same engine(s) with cast iron cylinder head and those were what was officially produced....

            Re: AIM lists both...

That clarifies a lot. Thanks Dennis and Jack. One last question: Could someone have ordered a 582 and received a 354 (surprise) since there were no aluminum heads produced in 61? Or was a 582 not even an order option?
