The saga continues. I'm still in the process of rebuilding what I believe to be the original water pump on my '67. The casting date looks like (G 9 6) which I interpret to mean July 9, 1966, for my April '67 build date. There is about 5 years of unknown history on the car ('67-'72), when I suppose the original could have been replaced, but not since then (it sat unused from '75 to '96). Anyway, the water pump worked okay in '97 when I re-built the engine. In April ('00) it went out, and I started to re-build it. According to the instructions from Long Island Corvette, "original water pumps had a 5/8" impeller (thickness). Longer (thicker) implellers will have to be cut down to work with this seal." I maintain that the opposite is true. The original impellers were 7/8" (like mine), and were cut down during a re-build to provide a clean mating surface for the seal. Can anyone confirm this? - David Knowles '67 427/390 convertible

Re: original '67 Water Pump impeller dimension
Dave, Those rebuild kit may not contain the same length components as the original assembly. I obtained my new ceramic seals from Web Seal a company that sells only seals of all types locally. They were the same length as the originals. One of the guys on this board gave me this phone number (323) 269-7977 for water pump rebuild kit. Address is Salgado Automotive 3975 Whittier Blvd. LA Calf. I have not tried them yet, But if you do let me know how ya make out.- Top
