    C2 Accelerator Rod and Pivot

Can some one please tell me the correct direction to insert the swivel that the accelerator rod threads into on a 1966 BB. I'm referencing the end that connects to the accelerator lever.

The AIM shows it inserting from the engine side out on a SB. It also appears to show what looks like it going in from the outside in on an L72. Is the direction truly reversed going from a SB to a BB. I hope not otherwise I am off by a good inch. That is to say the rod threads in fine if inserted like a SB. If I reverse the swivel, the accelerator rod is way off.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, no help, but could not resist a comment. I have noticed for my 64FI one can find the direction both ways - AIM facing inward while repair manual (may be parts book) is facing outward. Sorry for lack of help, however I'll be interested in comments form the experts.

      Bob,

I would install it for the best alignment.

Thanks for the replys, Allen and Verle. Looking through my library I was able to find some pictures of original BB cars. They all showed the the pivot being inserted from the engine side, just like the SB. The Shop Maunal also shows it that way, so I'm pretty confident that I got it right. Thanks.

Alan etal, Had the same problem with my 63 FI car. I looked at some old original photos that showed the swivel pointing toward the distributor. The cotter pin hole was or is closest to the distr. Meanwhile if you do it backwards you will most likely have severe alignment problems with the accel rod. I just looked at my 63 to make sure the info above is correct. Swivel can be zincad or maybe blackened. Meanwhile there is not clearance between the head of the swivel and the radio shielding bracket. Enough though but close.

Sorry-I know nothing about the big block accelerator rod stuff.

What happened to the other two posts for this question? Alans is gone and so is another. JD
