Re: If you like 3, How about 4 !
Tony,
Could you be referring to Man-A-Fre intakes from the 60's?
I seem to remember they were made using Rochester Fuel Injection base plates, or something that looked very much like them, with four two barrel carburetors mounted sideways. Or it could be that I looked at a Man-A-Fre and thought "I could build one of those with an FI base plate". Then maybe I thought "Why fool with carburetors when I have the FI?"
After forty some years my memory could be slightly off.

Verle,
I went to E-Bay and found the auction for Literature about Man-A-Fre. Interesting to say the least.
Thanks.

Here's another "four" - '57 Caddy with a log manifold with four Stromberg 97's; went into my '51 Ford (in 1958) to replace the '55 Caddy (set back ten inches) with Hydra-Matic I had already put in it. Linked photo below shows my "custom sheet metal work" to accommodate the setback; made quite a "sleeper" on Woodward, but didn't win any fabrication prizesAttached Files- Top

Re: If you like 3, How about 4 !
John,
Did you have the tie rod link go through a tube in the pan or have the pan cut for clearance so that the rod went underneath. I remember that a lot of other make v8's had trouble with the 49 through 51 Fords drag link/tie rod clearance and had to have a modification.
Before Corvettes in my life it was the Ford flatheads from 49 through 51 that caught my attention. I did my first Body & Paint work on my 50 convertible that I had, while I was in high school.

About 1961 a friend had a Oldsmobile engine in a 54 Ford. They welded up a drop tie rod setup to clear the pan.
After a 100 MPH+ run down the highway (read race) he stopped to turn around.
When he backed up the tie rod parted and both front wheels turned in....bad weld.
There was some pucker factor at that time.

There Are Just Some Times...
When you KNOW the Deity has stepped in to allow your dumb butt to continue living...Your friend should have turned his life over to Jesus right then.
I have had a scrape or two like that. It's not pleasant to contemplate the alternative, but then I suppose you wouldn't be concerned with what you missed anyway...only your loved ones would be able to think about how it "might have been".- Top
