Just recieved an "NOS" upper pulley from LIC. the finish is bare cast metal(black). Can someone tell me if that finish is correct? Second should the lower pulley and idler have the the same bare metal finish? Don't have my JG with me. Thanks.

Re: 63/340 upper pulley
JG states idler pulley may have black phosphate finish. Early cars have been reported to have a cad or zinc finish on the idler.
It also states water pump pulley is gloss black or are plated with dark green or black phosphate finish. The same is stated for crankshaft pulley.
This info is from page 90-91 of the fourth edition JG.

Jim-----
If by "upper pulley" you are referring to the waterpump pulley, that was NEVER a cast iron pulley for ANY Corvette application. Water pump pullies were always stamped steel.
The original waterpump pulley for your application was GM #3770245. This is DEFINITELY a stamped steel pulley. All of the originals that I have seen were black phosphate finished. However, I wouldn't rule out that some were painted semi-gloss black. The 3770245 was available from GM until a few years ago. ALL of the later SERVICE examples of this pulley that I've seen were painted semi-gloss black or powder-coated black. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
