    C2 windshield frame removal

Waht is involved in the removal of a 67 convertible windshield frame in order to properly prepare for paint? Obviously the dash should come out, but are there any other significant obstacles or tricks?

    Thanks,
    Rex NCRS #8089

Dash does not have to come out. Inner moldings must be removed in order to remove outer moldings. Tools needed are Phillips screwdriver, special tool to remove outer lower molding, and 5/16" x 1/4" drive socket to remove outer side moldings.

      Rex -

Are you talking about the windshield frame MOLDINGS, or the actual steel windshield frame?

        John,

I am referring to the actual steel frame and glass. I would like to take the entire assembly off to prep for painting.

        Thanks,
        Rex

The windshield frame doesn't come off - it's an integral welded part of the steel birdcage assembly on both the coupe (shown) and the convertible.

John: what does the coupe that you built on this birdcage look like?

                Mike -

Not my photo, but I wish I had that birdcage when I built my tube-frame Grand Sport replica 12 years ago; would have stiffened the body structure very nicely and saved me a lot of fabrication.

Gee.....I Thought You Meant the Trim

Okay, if you wanna remove the frame, then you can do it like I usta do it in the FDNY. It's called a Hurst tool (the "jaws of life"), which works great if the windshield is still installed. You can also burn the frame off with a cutting torch. You can also use a Partner saw with carbide blade installed. Sawzall, power chisel, hacksaw, cutoff saw will also work.
