FWIW-

CFA was for big block applications only

CAS was a non-posi diff.

CAO was for small block with posi.

The only difference I know between HD and non HD is the type of yoke cap and bolts. BWTFDIK

Gee Mike I guess we better tell the UAW that they put a big block differential in my 1970 LT1 -- 2 CFA 12 6 69 W - 3.70:1 Assembled December 6, 1969 at Warren on the second shift.

I have always wondered about the non-positraction codes since all 1970 Corvettes were supposed to come with positraction as standard equipment. Oh well, these are just some of the mysteries of C3 production.

MY 70 LT-1 FEB.built 4:11 is CFB, My late Feb LT-1 3:70 is CFA.Both origional rear ends.

I think you have an older version of the Spec guide. Later versions were corrected.

FWIW, My July 1st built LT1 rear end is stamped:

2FC 8 13 69W

It's a HD 456 posi unit (ZR1 optioned cars only).
