C1 2x4 Fuel Filter housing leak

The fuel filter housing on my '57 has a slight leak as evidenced by some gas when I run my finger between the top of the housing and the glass bowl. I have tightened it as much as I dare. Any suggestions? A leak there could be disastrous

its usually due to mis-alignment of the bowl to housing gasket. mike

      Other considerations...

The other 'top two' reasons for GF-48 filter assy's to leak are:

      (1) The pot metal lid has warpped due to prior use, heat, and over tightening. Check by laying the lid against a flat surface...

      (2) The outer gasket is old/dried and unable to properly absorb the mating surface edge differential(s). Remember, the purpose of a sealing gasket is to absorb surface differences across a thermal expansion RANGE. So, over tightening is just as bad as under tightening! The seal has to 'breathe' as surfaces expand/contract....

Over time, I have been given two thoughts...

        ...on the subject.

        1. Try using 2 gaskets.

        2. Apply a film of lube to gasket surface.

And, of course, what Jack & Mikie say...
