That Delco and GM part numbered cap was first used in PRODUCTION for most Chevrolet and Corvette applications for the 1969 model year. It was used for most applications through the 1974 model year.
The GM #1971244 remained available in SERVICE until September, 1992 when it was replaced by GM #12338667 and later, GM #12363081. All three caps retained the same Delco D308R part number (since Delco part numbers are application-specific and not part-specific).
The GM #1971244 did change in very minor ways over the period of its introduction (late 1968 for the 1969 model year) until it was discontinued in 1992. Primarily, these changes involve "script" changes. The last 1972244's available had no lettering, whatsoever, on the outside surface of the cap, although most did have a small Delco trademark inside the cap.
The 12338667 and 12363081 usually had no manufacturing source, at all, identified on them. That's because Delco-Remy ceased to manufacture them in the early 90's when most of the plants in Anderson, IN began to be "phased out". All point-type distributors and parts thereof that remained available from GM after that time were "outsourced".
