    62 SHIFTER PROBLEM

    Hello all,
After searching the archives last night, I found a post with excactly the same problem I had yesterday. Lost 4th gear and eventually couldn't shift at all. The shift lever just floped around. As I suspected and as a replying post stated, the pin holding the shift lever to the shaft that moves the linkage was gone. Unfortunatly the returning poster wasn't specific about what kind of pin it was. Is it a special Chevy part, or is it a common roll pin or bolt. If it is a roll pin what size, length, diameter is it. The 1/4" bolt with 2 locking nuts I put in there today seems to be working fine but I'd like to put the correct part in.
    Thanks for your help.

    John -

If you call Neil Porter (Vette Products of Michigan) at (248) 693-1907, he can probably take care of you with the pin - he manufactures the reproduction shifters that most of the suppliers sell.

The source that John suggested is going to be your best bet. The shaft you need, GM #3758894, was discontinued from SERVICE in April, 1975.

When mine broke/fell out a few years ago I took the part to my Home Depot and fitted a split pin.

John I am not familiar with the shifter for your 62. I had a 63 SS with 4-speed and lost a pin in the shifter and could not shift, this happened in 1967. Am wondering if the pin you lost in your 62 Corvette's shifter and the pin I lost are the same part?
