The 1958-60 TIM&JG p.72 says "Hood ... mounting bolts are dished shoulder head with a captive star washer ...". The suppliers sell bolts like this in a kit of 10, presumably for both hinge-to-hood and hinge-to-rad support.
In the former case, it makes sense, as there is a (floating) nut plate in the hood that receives the bolts; the captive star washer will secure this fitting. BUT, in the latter case, this early '58 car had "M" headmark dished shoulder bolts with loose nuts and lockwashers in the rad support mount. It does not seem logical to have captive lockwashers, with loose nuts behind. My rad support DOES have some weld nuts, but not at those locations. In fact, absolutely none of the weld nuts are positioned usably, including 8 on the forward (!) side of the rad support.
my questions:
A. Does/shouldn't the TM&JG refer ONLY to the hinge-to-hood mount bolts as having captive star washers?
B. Is this early '58 rad support perhaps a '57 rad support as Noland's book proposes, thus having no weld nuts for the hood hinges? Do other / later C1s have weld nuts to accept the hinge bolts with captive star washer?
