    c3_71-more help!!

    To all,

Fixed my snapped hood release cable> thanks for the help. Unfortunately, now the headlights don't popu up and wiper cover did not go back down so something wrong now with vacuum system?

Note that I first tried to open up the passenger side by popping the grobmmet out and trying to manipulate the lock. Was unsuccessful and eventually just took of grills to open the hood and install new release cable -hood opens fine now. Reason why I mention this is it possible I could have punctured something that I am not noticing when playing with screw driver through the hole. My lights used to pop up immediately and the wipe cover popped up when I first was trying to use the screwdriver trick but now it doesn't go back down.

Looking for suggestions on where to start this debug process. Thanks Peter

    On '71 cars...

the vacuum routes across the firewall from the driver's to passenger side via a steel tube that terminates into rubber hose in the viscinity of the wiper door actuator/RH hood catch. Could you have distrubed this generating a MAJOR system vac leak in your attempt(s) to free the hood?

      Re: c3_71-more help!!

The valve that senses wipers down -- in order to allow wiper door to close -- is on the passenger side -- the passenger wiper arm has to hit that valve in order to work. Old brittle plastic valve could have been broke by screwdriver while you were trying to open hood, or hose could have been knocked off valve.

I don't know what that would have to do with the headlights, but it is a place to start.

        Re: c3_71-got ii!! - thanks

Guys - thanks for responding. Found a thick hose with Green line in center that was off a connection tee on Drivers side close to where I reconnect the new hood release. I suspect I knocked off by accident when I was laying on floor with Driver grill off and was reaching up to open the hood. Either that, or when I put the new cable in bumped into it and knocked it off.

Either way, just got home, found it, reconnected it, started car up, and tried it and wiper cover went up and down immediately and headlights popped up immediately.

Thanks for trying to help out.
