Dumb Question before I head to Bloomington

I have only been to one swap meet, so..., what is the accepted form of currency? I hope to find a lot of parts, but don't want to carry a lot of cash. Do vendors accept personal checks (you may laugh now), do I need to get travelers checks, and are there onsite places to cash them?

    Gerry,

Cash is generally king, but there are usually ATMs where you can get cash.

I think it is unreasonable for someone to expect you to have $800 for a hard-top or a transmission in cash. I have bought such things with a check (at a swap meet), and a valid drivers license. Maybe I have an honest face. On the other hand, I wouldn't expect someone to take a check for $5 for a PS pulley. I usually carry some cash, and a checkbook for purchases >$100. (Great, now I'm gonna get mugged at the next swap meet). - David Knowles '67 427/390 convertible

Thanks for the info Chuck. I guess most of the board has gone to Bloomington. It looks like our messages were the first since about 7pm last night.

          David,

Thanks, I'll bring some cash, and my checkbook and credit cards.

I realized after posting that asking people how much money they carry is pretty stupid. Fortunately we're all honest here (muggers don't use computers)

I'm off to Bloomington tomorrow AM. I can't say I've ever written a check at a swap meet to a stranger....BUT...I have written checks to vendors I personally know and have used credit cards with many of the "main" vendors...Corvette Central, etc. Usually regular vendors...guys selling parts from their own personal "stash" prefer cash...then they go spend it elsewhere buying more "stuff". ATM's are a terrific invention. Chuck

For what it's worth, at Carlisle 2 years ago they had what looked like bank teller windows set up at the main building. It was really crowded in there and HOT, so I only stayed long enough to grab a hot dog and coke, and didn't pay too much attention, but I think they were giving out cash in exchange for personal checks and/or plastic.

Don't hold me to it though. Good luck and have fun! Wish I were going.

                Are you serious?

P.S. Don't take any money at all! That way you won't come home broke like me! Checks at a swap meet? Tee Hee, snort, giggle, cough!
