    1972 gas tank

My gas tank slipped or tilted backward. The filler neck is toward the rear. When I adjust the tank to the proper position it moves back when I tighten the straps. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chuck

    Chuck,

It's difficult to speculate on your problem without seeing it. Normally, if the tank is resting straight on the rear frame crossmember and the tank support, the straps will put pressure straight down on the tank to hold it in place. Did you buy the car like this? Does the car have frame damage and therefore allowing the tank to slip off the rear crossmember?

Mark, The tank was ok when I bought it. It did have a new tank on though. GM part no. so that seems to be right. I was thinking maybe a spacer. Though the GM assembly manual shows there is none. Thanks for the help, I'll keep trying.
