    Adhesive/Cement/Sealer for Weatherstrip

My '70 AIM calls out for a sealer, an adhesive and a cement on various surfaces when applying weatherstrip to the body. What is the difference? What is the equivlant of the commonly available 3M weatherstrip "adhesive"?

    Thanks, Mark

I have just cleaned the surface with prep-sol or similiar before using the 3M super weatherstrip adhesive. Put it on both surfaces, let tack up and then stick together. I keep a tube of black and yellow around all the time. works great on other things also.

Mark, I think all you need to worry about is the adhesive. The sealer is a prep for the rubber weatherstripping itself. I used the yellow 3-M adhesive (not black)Used on both surfaces until dry and contact together. GM didn't do a real clean job either.

I use 3M Black. It's like Bob said just make sure the surface area is clean for glue to stick to. Apply the weather stripping and wait. Check application to your satisfaction.

I used to use the Yellow glue but got burned out with the mess I was leaving. But if you want your car to be all original or get more points for originality use the Yellow glue.grr#33570

GRR, You know, I used the black stuff before and It looked so messy I removed it all and used the yellow stuff. It was much better. I think that it depends on what color your car is . At the time mine was ontario orange. The yellow didn't contrast with that color much. The black stood out like a sore thumb where I didn't apply just perfect. If you have a black, dark blue, dark green car , the black would probably look better. The application at the plant was with a paint brush. I believed they used the yellow because they could be sloppy and you wouldn't notice with the black weather-strip.

Bob,the car is Goodwood Green. I guess I could have gone with the yellow but picked the black. Either color will work on mine. I could see your color problem that must have been some sight.Take care.grr#33570
