    1969 Brake Calipers

I have a 4 owner 84K mile mostly original 1969 manual brake car that has a leaking caliper. I own it about 6 years and have never done brakes.

I am going to pull it this weekend and was wondering how I can tell if it is an original caliper? Are originals date coded? Thanks.

There are no meaningful dates codes, if there are any date codes, at all, on these calipers. However, if the calipers are original, all of the caliper halves will have a casting number beginning with "545". Of course, this doesn't say, for sure, that the calipers are original to the car. But, if they have these caliper casting numbers, they will be indistinguishable from those originally installed on the car.

Good luck Greg, I just did my manual brakes on the 70 and what a huge difference. Count on replacing some of thoes break lines if not all of them. I had lots of fun bleeding mine, I used one of thoes vacuum units and kept pulling air in through a couple of leaks. I also dod the hoses and the master cyl. too. Feels like power brakes compared to the 61

Thanks for the warning : ) Where did you get your brake components from and where you happy with the price and quality?

Anyone who has bought calipers in the past feel free to offer your experiences as well. Thanks

I got them at Bair's and they were very helpfull on the phone, quick shipping etc. When I wanted to return the cores, I was able to bring them to Carlisle and they had a check waiting for me. Also had recieved a damaged MC cover, and they made good right in Carlisle.
