1973 air induction accelerator switch adjustment

Anyone have any experience adjusting the floor switch behind the accelerator that opens the air induction flap on the hood? If I pull out the switch with my fingers the door on the hood pops open as it is supposed to. Therefore the system is operable to my knowledge. If I press on the accelerator it does not open. I can visualize only one hex head screw that is threaded form inboard to outboard on the switch. Thanks.

I worked on a 1974. Might be the same system. The micro-switch is self adjusting. Pull it toward the accelerator -- I think it goes that way. Then step on the pedal and it should be adjusted. Be sure there is no floor mat under the pedal. Anything that prevents the full travel of the accelerator will prevent the switch from operating.

If an adjustment fails try a short length of rubber hose over the round lever on the switch.

Terry/Lyle-the adjustment worked like a charm. It very audibly pops open when you mash the accelerator. If it fails to "remember" its set point I will try the hose on the adjuster. Part of the problem I was having was the weather strip insulation in the hood which surrounds the flapper had fallen down in front of the flapper, which was trapping it closed. In fact I was told the flapper wasn't present. All I did there was remove the screen and glue the WS back in place with 3M WS adhesive. It now is back on line. As always a big thanks.

Guys, forgive my ignorance on this, but an air induction hood flap on a '73 (or for any Corvette) is new to me. I did not know there was ever such a thing. Have owned lots of Corvettes, including at present a '75, but did not know about a hood flap. My '75 has a wire mesh at the base of the hood that allows fresh air in continually, no flap that I'm aware of. Thus I assume that the flaps could only have been in '73 and '74? Only for big blocks? Is there no wire mesh on the '73, just a flap, or both mesh and flap? It sounds like a neat thing, reminds me of the ('77/'78?) Z28 hoods where the flap opened at the base of the hood on acceleration. Seems I learn something new everyday about Corvettes.

Your 75 should have the flap. Look for a wire on the inside of the hood on the drivers side that plugs in at the lower front. Their is a solinoid that opens the flap on full acceleration.

Thanks, Lyle, I don't have access to my car just right now, but I did look at some photos I have with the hood up and I can see that wire. I had no idea that there was a solenoid-actuated flap, I assume its behind the wire mesh at the base of the hood. I always that that there was a much more noticeable audible air-rush noise at full acceleration (actually sounds pretty good for a smogged, low HP L-48!), I guess now I know its the flap opening and letting the air rush in. See, performance ideas were not completely dead in '75! Wow, an acceleration-activated air induction system, now thats cool!!

Funny that this comes up....Just this past weekend I was removing all of the hardware on Project Katrina's ('74) hood to prepare for stripping, and stumbled on the (very rusty) solenoid....whoda thunk it? Never seen reference made to this, but will check the aim now.
