Rear Y-pipe hanger

My 78 L48 coupe does not have a rear exhaust Y-pipe hanger on it now. I thought it was missing, but the only ones I see available are for an L82. Did the L48 use a hanger on the rear Y-pipe?

Yes, 1978 L-48 did use a hanger on the rear "Y" pipe. It was GM #357781. The lower clamp was GM #357784. Both are GM-discontinued.

1978 with L-82 used a different hanger. It was GM #459081 and it remains available from GM for about 90 bucks, GM list. The lower clamp was GM #473039, but it's discontinued.

The reason that you see the L-82 clamp as being available is likely because it's still available from GM and that's where the various Corvette suppliers get it. Since the L-48 hanger is discontinued and probably not reproduced, that's why you don't see that one available.

Tip: Dr. Rebuild may still have some of the GM L-48 hangers available. That rascal often surprises.
