Can I remove C1 gen tag without dissasembly?

Hi,

Can I remove the old tag from my C1 generator with the gen on the car?
My concern is that if I drill out the rivets, shavings could damage the gen internals? I don't care about damage to the tag, is there another better way to remove the tag and the rivets?

Yes, you can get them out IF you can CAREFULLY grab the rivet heads and lift/twist... The shanks of the rivets are knurled/threaded and tend to 'bite' into the generator's housing mounting holes.

The very best way to remove though, is to disassemble the generator and drill the rivets out. But, that IS a chunk of labor!

I took one off once. On mine (a 1102046), the cavities in the housing for the rivets did not go through to the inside.
