    Soda blasters

Does anyone have any experience with the Eastwood Portable Soda Blaster?

I will be restoring a '66 soon and may do a car every few years and wanted to do as much of the work myself. I noticed Eastwood sells a Portable soda blaster (7 CFM) for $380 that they claim is "Great for small applications". They sell a full size heavy duty one for $1800 but I do not want to invest in that what what I will use it. But if the portable one would do the job but just take more time then I think it might be worth getting one.

Just wondering if anyone had one and had used it to strip the paint off fiberglass. I have attempted to post a link to Eastwood's site.

I would think twice before using soda. At least one paint company that I know of states not to use soda before applying an epoxy primer. Look at having it stripped with the softest available acrylic beads.

Soda blasting has it's inherent problems, just as chemical and media stripping do. The big problem with soda and media lasting is the residue that gets into the crevaces. If are not careful cleaning the car before painting, the residue can blow out and cause problems. Same with chemical stripping. I have seen several paint jobs damaged because the painter did not get all the stripper out of the hidden places.

I think that if I was painting one today I would have it soda blasted. Friend had '67 soda blasted about a year ago and he was very pleased with it.

Just wondering if there is any reason you couldn't use soda in a regular small sandblaster with a different nozzle?

I was just wondering if any one had or has used this small soda blaster to strip a car?

I believe this was a new item in their latest catalog, so more than likely not too many people have even purchased one yet. Perhaps in a few months you can get some reviews. Those units caught my attention as well, but my experience with sandblasters tells me that the small unit will try your patience if you intend to use it to strip an entire car.
