    091 Coil

I have a repro 091 coil on my 62 340SHP which I believe has failed. Are there more than one manufacturer of these repro coils? If so, where is the best place to purchase them? Has anyone else had bad luck with 091 repro coils?

The repro cover 091 replaces any old coil cover, if you can open the the top area gently then get a good coil and remove it's cover and oil then put the 091 cover on it.
That's how there done if I'm not wrong??????

Roy, et al. The early repro coils had a cover that just slipped over the old coil. The way to tell them was you could feel the sharp edge of the top of the cover.

Greg,If you use an original Delco Remy coil-high output readily available 202 or 022(forgot) from a 64-65 FI your ignition will work the way it was designed. IF your car is being judged you will get an SR which you should also receive with a repro. AS long as it is a high output Delco Remy coil that's all you need. Match the ballast resistor with the coil of course.
As far as the repros it is widely known that there are two manufacturers or main dealers. . Corvette Specialities of MD-Brian is the 1st and Goat Hill of CA-Paul Baker is the 2nd source. I just listed the names at random as I don't know which one is better and wouldn't say so anyhow on here. Both fellows have treated me quite well for many years. John

Roy & Dick, Are the coil can covers being sold anymore? If so who handles them. A customer just asked me that question today. I know that Paragon used to sell them but I couldn't find them in the catalog. Thanks, John

The repro 091 coil I have has a regular 091 cover, not a slip on cover. I think the 091 is embossed higher on the case than on an original. I was wondering if all the vendors get the repro coils from one source or if multiple sources exist. If multiple sources exist, which source provides the best coil from a performance standpoint?

I think the 086 repro's are no longer made? The 091 I would never know because I cant effort those newer Corvettes.

Roy, My 63 has an 087 coil for now.I also have an 091 for it. Have them wired in together so all I have to do is flip a switch like Nascar does. Then whatever turns a judge on I am ready. Never heard of a 086 coil though. But it's hard to remember some of those numbers. I was just asking about the cheater can that slipped over the coil. Wondered is they are still made and who sells them. Thanks, John

JD, I do not think that the covers are being manufactured anymore. Roy Bratz probably remembers the gentleman on the West Coast that made them. I can visualize his face, but cannot remember his name. I have not seen him in 15-20 years.

DW, So another good repro part hit the dust. I prefer the real deal anyhow.

Greg-Ebay is a good source for your 091 coil. I bought a mint NOS 091 for my 63 FI car in case I need it later on. But I hate to touch anything under the hood at all as the thing starts instantly. Go messing with something and you know the rest. JD

                      Re: 091 Coil "john"

Bob Conner's made them 086 coil for a 55 Corvette only and the 55 to 59 radiator shielding but no longer , they were correct , like many of use older guys are stop making parts, I stopped making the bubble tops like the 55 shielding I also made. But found some parts to make just a few more 55 shielding soon to sell and then good luck to any one not having them. Like some older guys that did make parts years ago there drying up and giving up making them.
Sorry for the newbee's in the future locating GOOD limited repro parts!

Bob Conner's was a genius at making parts. Made some of the nicest pieces I ever saw. Better than original in a lot of cases.
