Bruce - I had to look and they look rare to me. Hopefully, someone will tell us what we're looking at and how rare they are. Isn't eBay wonderful. Pete

I think that Clem may have an answer. I believe that these are Chevy Power valve covers. But what do I know??

I don't know anything about these. However, I don't think that these were ever used on any PRODUCTION vehicle, Corvette or otherwise.

              Re: Rare Valve Covers

I've seen these on a couple of engines where they set up non-standard small block rocker setups. There was one at Bloomington years ago that they called a porcupine head on a mouse, with big block staggered valves.

Like Clem, I remember seeing them on street rod engines. I think they are just an aftermarket cover for exotic rocker setups. I don't remember who made them, but I'd bet Chevy didn't.

Too bad I have gotten rid of all my old Hot Rod and Rod and Custom magazines from long ago. I'm sure there would be some there.

But on eBay, being a rare Corvette item is much more valuable than being a forgotten item of the '50s or '60s.

No staggered bolt holes, so how can they be for early Corvettes???

I can't believe no one here thought of this. I asked a friend who is more into hot rods than cars, and he popped up Ardun heads. He figured it was a set up to look like a true hot rod - flathead with Ardun heads, but using a dependable small block to do it.

Another old hot rodder is getting back to me tomorrow or the next day who probably has had a set of these, since I think he has owned every hot rod part ever made.

I remember seeing them on street rods years ago.
I think they were to make a small block look like a big block.
There are/were no rocker arms that require that much room.

                          Re: maybe- CAL-CUSTOM

Maybe these things bolt on the stock SB heads with screws within the lower half. The added height is then beneficial in oil containment when adjusting valves.

As Joel suggested, these do bolt to small block heads using the existing valve cover bolts. The top come off so you have access inside to bolt them to the head.

They would be useful for adjusting the valves when the engine is running.

                            Duke should get a set.

just got call from Bob Kunz, the carb guru out of st louis. bob states the valve covers were aftermarket, made for the street rod set, by the Larson or Larsen co in the mid 70's. he has a buddy that still has a pair. Larsem made them for both sbc and also for bbc. the $3800 bid on current pair on ebay is outrageous.bidding seems fishy. mike
