Doc, As usual I am confused. My 63 4657 fuel pump bottom cover is held on with two fillister screws.
What do you mean by four fastened??? John
P.S. Need Ron Wilson's phone number. If you have it email it to me please.

john: i was wrong to bundle the 63 and 64 shp fuel pumps. the 63 4657 does have two fastners. the 64 and 65 shp pumps,40083, are the critters with 4 fastners. i've of the belief the 64 was die cast and most 65 bottom covers were gold-cad stamped steel covers. the stamped steel covers are plentiful, the die cast scarce here in cumberland. mike

Doc,Glad you fessed up your error cause of old age. I haved a really nice spare original 63 4657 (not the frog pads) and it needs a mint cover as the one for it has been eaten by the PA salt trucks. Someone once they they thought those covers were made of magnesium but I really don't know if that's true or not. John

          Mike,
Have my original Mar 64 fuel pump (083) and it has the gold-cad steel bottom, so I would assume two vendors where making for AC. Note, inside the middle section of pump is the year, ie "64". Also you will find the number 15324. I also have a latter 083 pump that looks the same, but inside date is "67" So I would assume either pump could be used.

Alan, We seem to be talking about two pumps at once.
There seems to be some fusion as to exactly the material used on the 63 4657 pumps for the bottom cover that has AC on it. The one that gets beaten to death from road grime. Some say magnesium and some say zinc die cast. What puts a wrench into this subject is the later style 4657 FF (etc) that is appropriate for the 66 300 HP for example typically has the zinc die cast. I have now seen three covers for various 4657 pumps that I have. Since MOST are apart I can't tell what came from what. Steel, die cast, and magnesium. My 63 FI car has a NOS 4657 correct pump on it dated 62. I don't know what cover is on the thing. Have to look at a later date. Thanks, John

alan: bill clupper just emailed me that he too has an example of a stamped steel bottom cover on a 64 365 car he's almost certain has its original pump. we need more folks to chime in on this 64 083 bottom cover composition issue. thanks, mike

                C2, 64 40083 Fuel Pump

Just to keep everything clear (or try to) The original fuel pump on my Mar 1964 FI car is the 40083 fuel pump. Have talked with 2nd owner (66-67) and first (64-66), neither replaced the pump. So I believe it's the original . . .

Additionally when I took pump apart the numbers "64" were cast into the center section. The bottom cover is the light gold-cad stamped steel and all the screws are also light gold-cad.

Have pictures if anyone wants - just email me

                  Re: C2, 64 40083 Fuel Pump

My original 64 fuel car, built Feb 64, has what I believe to be the original 40083 pump with the die cast bottom. Rex
