    C1 coil spring "trivia"

Original C1 coil springs have part #'S stamped in , flat area at one end "only"= direction is to the top or bottom ??
    Note/ look at other pic.

roy,i would guess the top---corrosion would be less at the top for future p/n reading---the round end would,(with no p/n), pivot in the lower control arm easier as to where the squared end might "pop" when the arm moves---just a guess---phil

Dennis! is correct and if you come across a pair of front spring saying original you now know by it's design weather they are -repro isn't the same design but round at both ends which cause the top to wear into the A arm and making Noise!

It's my understanding that the "over the counter" original GM springs don't have the numbers stamped in...only the assembly line cars.

If nobody can answer this for sure I can dig in the stash for an answer. I have a pair of new GM springs I bought from the dealer for my '59 in 1971. I just haven't gotten around to putting them in yet.

It was answered flat end go to the top A arm.

                Re: C1 coil spring "Tom"

Just checked the front springs I ordered for my 61 sometime in the mid 70s, no part# stamped on the flat end.

White GM part# tags along with yellow, 'made in canada" tags wrapped around the coils.

Each spring has 4 small notches on the side of the flat near the end. Also a 'P' is stamped into the side of the flat on the first coil.

3rd coil from the round end has a splotch of black paint on each spring.

                white tags have part# 375654?

                  Re: C1 coil spring "Tom"

Correct numbers and correct if it has a flat area at one end, may be a second issue (run not having the numbers) But real original springs
You have something few will ever see NOS

Yes! that's where I got the pic. and most people pass up real original ones for wrong repro's that sit the vett to high.Oh well!
I may buy them just to have a extra set on hand for my 55.

Have the repros got any better in recent years, where they now sit with the correct ride height?

YES some are if you buy them from the right supplier , but again they don't set in correct because both ends are round , why do you think GM made a flat end. My web page is down right now but shows the lower A arm recess where the hole sets the round coil end , nun at the top A arm for a flat contact

I ask this because it looks like Corvette Central now sells a repro with a flat spring on one end? Click on the picture on the attached link. Also, I thought I saw a thread a while back where someone said that the CC repros now have the correct ride height?

I see they do your right but still hear people say the vett rides to high or "hard" , the ones for sale I can tell are GOOD and straight and I know will feel correct, it may be the repro thickness of the coils or temper of the steel, I really don't know I never used repro's
