1970 CUSTOM INTERIOR

I have 3 70 Corvettes. Early FEB. LT-1 coupe,late Feb. LT-1 conv. & a mid March 454 conv. with all options except wheel covers,shoulder belts & custom int. I ask the origional why he did not order it he said he was told it was not avalable yet. Thinks he ordered in Jan. at Bob McDorrman. OHIO. I have been going to Corvette shows & looking at adds since 1980 when I bought my LT-1 coupe (19000 MI)I have not found a Early car with leather with doc. If you have or know of a JAN,FEB, or early March car please let me know. THANKS

I am not sure what you mean by Custom interior. I have a Jan 29 built base coupe with deluxe interior trim(Leather,cut pile carpet, trim on doorpanels). If you go to the 70 Corvette registry http://www.1970corvetteregistry.org you will see that there are cars back to serial number 000004 with leather(deluxe) interior.

There may have been times during production when this option was put on hold or otherwise unavailable because of shortages(they were just coming off a strike at the end of 1969.). I can not be sure of that but they were building cars with deluxe interiors from the get go.

Thanks. I guess because over 3000 70's had leather int. I thought more early cars would have it. I know it was a new option. I am just going by what the guy I bought it from told me that is why he did not get it. I think your thoughts about shortages migh be the reason that thay told him that. I tend to beleave people that bought these cars new. Another sidelite. This car had a 3 mast antenna. I changed it when I repainted it. Had origional bronze paint. A guy years ago looked at the car years ago. lookt at the serial# & ask it had a 3 mast antenna. He said his did also. My car has stero AM/FM

Option wasn't really 'new' for 1970....

Leather seats were available for Corvette back to 1963. What was new for '70 was the name change for the option package. Instead of being listed as leather seats, the option was called custom interior and included cut pile carpet and wood accent panels on the doors and center console in addition to the leather seats.

That's what I said. He may have looked or ask for leather seat option and it was not on the option list. Bob MC Dormman sold a lot of Corvette's so I thought they would have known that custom interior was leather. Could that be the reason not many early cars did not have custom interiors?
