66 Parking Brake Retainer Clip Question

I am finishing up the chassis on my 66 (May '66 build) coupe). My question is in regards to the correct clip for retaining the parking brake cables at the frame and trailing arm points. When I took it apart (and this has proved to be a very original car), it had the horseshoe-shaped clips at these points. The AIM drawing looks like it also calls for the same horseshoe-shaped clips, but my 66 judging manual clearly calls for the mickey mouse spring clips as being correct. Can anyone clarify and advise? Thanks.

Larry, Can't help with a 66, but my 65 Judging guide says, "Heat treated steel "U" clips are used to secure the rear cables at frame". Maybe there was a change over to the spring clips early in 66. Do you have an early car?

      Mornin' Larry,

If you can wait till tomarrow I'll check my '66 coupe, built first week of June. I am the original owner of this car so it should be a good source of info for you. Bill

I have a 66 convert whic has a May 10 assembly date. I have the very same clips that you are describing. It has been top flight judged several times and it has not been knocked for these clips. I have owned the car for over 20 years and am the second owner. Minor changes like these occured during the production year. I didn't look at the AIM but the date on the page indicates when the change was approved. Not implemened on the line, which would be later. You have no problem.

Kent, When you refer to thye clips I mentioned in the post, I assumeyou mean the U-clips as having passed judging. Quanta estimated my build date as May 9th (#21299) so it must be pretty close to yours.

            Thanks

Sorry, Dave, it is manual steering.

My car is S/N 21441 and does have power steering. There is no mark on the dust cover housing.

My December 1965 66 convertible had U clips just like the brakes. They appeared to be black phosphate or natural not the zinic you get in most kits. Also the front and back fitting where the boots attach were painted a funky yellow. Closest I have come to that is the Quanta frame kit inspection yellow.

                    Re: Parking brake clips.....

My clips are black phosphate. With the age on them they may appear slightly grey. As for the Yellowish stuff, my car has too much age, and has not been cleaned in that area, so I can't be of much help.
